Over a period of six weeks, Tiësto will visit a long string of venues from Hong Kong to Australia in a real tour de force that will give even more people a chance to be a part of the real Elements of Life World Tour experience.

German DJ Phuture Traxx is fast becoming a fixture in Bali’s clubs, what with his last appearance earlier this year that saw him throw down some incendiary sets. This time round, it’s the turn of Pacha to enjoy his electro techno hybrid beats; the Freiburg native will be spinning there on 28 December.
With more than 80 gigs under his belt in Europe and Asia, plus appearances at major dance festivals like Loveparade 2007, Extravanganca, Sonic and Big Bang, Phuture Traxx’s name is becoming more and more familiar to the club kids of today. He’s spun alongside the likes of Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke, Rush and many more. His position as the publisher of free club culture magazine NITEBEAT allows him to be up to the minute with all things dance music and also allows him to throw major dance festivals himself, like Big Bang and Techno Masters which have a huge following in south Germany.
As a producer, he’s been responsible for a number of projects and collaborations, like the 2004 release Kwas vs. Phuture Traxx, which was played by DJ Rush and charted by Eric Sneo. His work has also featured on the CD compilation South Rockets Vol.1, released this year.

The 9th Jakarta Jazz Festival (JakJazz)

The 9th Jakarta Jazz Festival (JakJazz) is set to take place between 23-25 November this year, with probably the best and most diverse line up of Jazz related talent to date. The big names this year include west London brokenbeat/nu jazz collective Bugz in the Attic, Jazz Funk veterans Spyro Gyra and last but by no means least, the epic Kool & The Gang. These guys may be leading the vanguard, but the festival features an array of talented artists from around the world – names like Sahupala, Curtis King, Don Grusin, Masato Honda, Rani Singam, Pierrick Pedron and Carmen Bradford. And of course, all the best local talent will be on show – from pioneers like Benny Likamahua to the new generation led by jazz funksters Maliq & D’Essentials.

Bugz in the Attic
This formidable London based collective has been responsible for some of the most amazing jazz/soul and funk inspired future dance music there is to be found out there. Which is why they were asked by Fabric nightclub in London to deliver one in their series of highly regarded mix sessions and more recently in August this year, a Back To Mine compilation. One of the collective, Seiji, was in Bali as part of the Junction House Festival and dropped what was (for this correspondent) the best set of the series. With hundreds of original productions and remixes under their belts, these guys have shaped a whole sound. Go for broke – check them live.

Spyro Gyra
First formed in the early 70’s, U.S jazz fusion outfit Spyro Gyra had a string of successful singles during the period when Jazz Funk was at its height. Their biggest hits were Morning Song and Shaker Song, though these days their sound is smoother, blending elements of jazz, pop, R&B and funk. And they’re hard working too – usually delivering no less than 100 live concerts over the course of an average year. Seasoned, to say the least.
Kool & The Gang
To some, they are beloved for their grandiose early seventies funk work outs, for others their softer, anthemic disco, but whatever your preference, there is no doubting this band’s influential status in the annals of popular music. Around since 1964 (albeit under a different name) Kool & The Gang broke through in 1973 with the album Wild & Peaceful, which included the seminal tracks “Jungle Boogie” and “Hollywood Swinging.” Their 1975 album The Spirit of the Boogie is widely regarded as their best album, though after this the band switched from playing deep funk to a lighter disco sound – the 1979 album Ladies Night actually spawned the tradition of ladies nights in bars and clubs throughout New Jersey – their big disco hit of course was “Celebration” from the album Celebrate, while success continued into the mid 80s. And yes, they’re still going strong today.
